TOM'S PICK: "My mom loves things that are fun and vibrant, and the 2019 Cobb Coastlands Pinot Noir and Leonia Pomino Brut Marchesi Frescobaldi 2017 fit that description and then some. The first time I tried the 2019 Cobb Coastlands Pinot, I couldn’t get it out of my head for 3 straight days, it’s just so supremely elegant and thrilling. And it’s the perfect red for spring. I also think that every gift should include bubbles, and I’m so excited about Frescobaldi’s 2017 Leonia Pomino Brut. It comes from the highest elevation vineyards in all of Tuscany, in the all-but-forgotten region of Pomino which Frescobaldi has been revitalizing. In a region like Tuscany which is known predominantly for red wines, it’s a shining light of brightness and frivolity, and it’s only $34.99 to boot!"
MICHELE'S PICK: "I’ll be gifting mom Sancerre La Moussiere Alphonse Mellot 2021 and Sipp-Mack Riesling Rosacker Alsace Grand Cru 2015 because she LOVES Chardonnay, and I can’t seem to get her to drink anything else! She’s gotta branch out, there’s a whole world of delicious white wines to explore!"
MIKE'S PICK: "My momma’s all about Napa Cabs regardless of the season and loves exploring mid-priced wines in the $50-$70 range. Her gift this year? The 2019 La Pelle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Bold and beautiful just like her!"
CEYLAN'S PICK: "My mom’s a big Burgundy fan and loves great mineral-driven Loire. I’ll be gifting her two which she has enjoyed before: Pouilly Fuisse Autour de La Roche Domaine Ferret (Louis Jadot) 2020 and Sancerre Blanc Vacheron 2021."
As for me, Mother’s Day represents the start of Summer with longer, warmer days and more opportunities to appreciate great crisp dry white wines that accentuate the weather. My wife Jen becomes a “White Wine Only” oenophile for the Summer months and so I’ll be gifting her I Frati Lugana Ca Dei Frati 2020 and Chablis Billaud-Simon 2020 because I know these white wines will make her very happy.
